Today’s Guest
Jon Ostenson
Jon Ostenson spent 15 years in the corporate world before making a deliberate bet on business ownership — first as President of ShelfGenie, a 200-location national franchise, and then building his own firm from the ground up. He is the founder of FranBridge Consulting, a top 1% franchise consultancy where he’s helped thousands find their way into high-growth, non-food franchise opportunities. He’s a multi-brand owner himself, and the author of Non-Food Franchising: The Better Path to Business Ownership. He is based in Atlanta and also a dad of three — and someone who thinks about business ownership as a wealth and lifestyle vehicle, not just a career move.

Most parents are working hard to build wealth — maxing out their RRSPs, investing in real estate, putting money into the market. But how many of us are building something our kids can actually see, touch, and learn from in real time?
That’s the question at the heart of this conversation with Jon Ostenson, founder of FranBridge Consulting and one of the top franchise consultants in the US. But what makes Jon a perfect guest isn’t his business resume. It’s what he’s doing at home.
Jon pays his kids through his business and is quietly building them a tax-advantaged nest egg. The morning before we recorded, he was on the school run teaching his son about the marketing funnel — because the kid passed out 100 flyers for his neighbourhood pressure washing business and only landed six jobs. And he has thought deeply about what it means to model entrepreneurship, risk-taking, and financial independence for the next generation.
This is a rich, honest conversation about business ownership as both a wealth strategy and a parenting philosophy.
What we cover in this episode:
- The corporate escape and what it taught him about money
